What do I do when I get the message that my browser does not know what to do with my file or it does not save as an audio file?

When you are prompted to save the files make sure that a ".mp3" is attached as the file extension. Sometimes your computer may truncate a file name and cut off the extension. The effect of this being the file is saved as a text document or index file. You can implore a simple fix by just adding the file extension ".mp3" Also, if there are any special characters such as an apostrophe or commas, this can cause issues downloading as well. Simply rename the file and remove any special characters.

We also have bundled prices on most products which means that you get discounted prices if you choose to buy and download complete releases/albums.

Most files are in 320kb/s encoded MP3 files although some aggregators provide files in either 192kb/s or 256kb/s encoded MP3 files. We are working on making them update their repertoires to 320kb/s encoded MP3 files as well.

File Formats and Encoding:

DistElectronic currently provides music in the MP3 file format. Most MP3s are encoded at 320 kbps using the LAME encoder. Some aggregators provide files in lower quality and those vary between 192kb/s and 256kb/s encoded files. Samples from Power FX is provided in Wav or Aif format to make sure it's full quality and ready for use in your own music productions.

When do you post New Releases?

We post the New Releases as we get them.

What are the limitations to the music I download?

Files downloaded from DistElectronic can be listened to on your computer or portable digital audio devices. Also, the files can be burned to disc for listening on CD players. As per our end-user agreement, you CANNOT trade DistElectronic files with anyone else. This is a community of DJ's and artists and we do not support the sharing of files. Please respect the copyright and your role as the end user. (See the Point 10 in our 'Terms & Conditions' for more information.)

Can I share files with my friends?

No!!! DistElectronic does not endorse the sharing of copyrighted material. This hurts the artists who create the music and the labels that support those artists. DistElectronic has a zero tolerance policy for file sharing.

What happens if my hard drive crashes and I lose all my music?

If you were to lose or have a system crash on your hard drive we would not be able to reset your tracks. We ask that you please make sure to always back up your music for this reason. DistElectronic acts just like a record store, where if you were to lose a cd or vinyl, you would have to re-buy the items to replace them. It is an agreement and understanding that we have with our label partners.

Why do I get a "territory" error why trying to purchase some tracks?

Due to the request of our labels some tracks are only allowed to be downloaded in certain areas of the world, meaning that if you get this error, your particular region of the world is not authorized to download this track. If you have any questions regarding this please contact us or add your questions at the forums.

Sound Quality Issues

We at the DistElectronic do our best to provide our customers with quality music from the top labels and reknown aggregators (distributors) worldwide. The music goes on the site exactly the way it is sent to us from the label. Some labels have higher standards of quality than others though. You can easily tell which music was made in a million dollar studio and which was made in a much smaller one.

This is much like shopping in a record store. Some records are quiet and others are too loud depending on the quality of mastering involved in the press. We are the first to offer a refund if there is an obvious skip or a severe issue that cannot be repaired. We also contact the label to get another copy for our customers, but DistElectronic, as a music store, cannot be held responsible for our label's mastering standards.

Can I DJ with files purchased from DistElectronic?

This can only be answered on a territorial basis. In the United States and UK, the answer is YES, buying a track from DistElectronic is just like buying a record from the record store. The same legal implications are in effect. However, certain Territories have different restrictions regarding the legality of playing Digital Music files. We suggest you visit the website of your local publishing / mechanicals service to get a more detailed answer. We also recommend that you keep a copy of your order receipts with your music to prove that you have purchased your music legally. DistElectronic has taken the time to create agreements with all labels involved with our site and provide you with digital, legal alternatives to the music you may have purchased on record previously.

Can I burn CDs from the DistElectronic web site?

You cannot burn audio files from the site directly. You can burn DistElectronic MP3 files to CD on your own computer.

Which MP3 players work with DistElectronic?

Files downloaded from DistElectronic can be played on most MP3-players including the iPod. For best results make sure your MP3 player supports ID3 v2. This simply refers to the way the files are tagged for Song name, Artist, Album, Label, Genre. Etc.

How can I get my music on DistElectronic?

Visit the "Sign Up" page and sign up either as a label or Unsigned artist. After sign up you can start to add artists, albums and tracks to your label immediately. However, for both user types we require a signed agreement between Label/Artist and DistElectronic before we can approve your profile and make it available in the market place. You may fax, snail mail or why not scan the agreement, save it as pdf or other graphics format, and send it back in an email for faster handling. If you have a big back catalogue we make you an ftp account or you can of course send us CDR or DVDR records with your music as well. If you are interested in learning more about our exclusive label deals, please contact us via the 'Contact Us' form.

I'm clicking the play icon and it looks like it's playing but I can't hear any sound?

First, check to make sure your sound is turned up all the way. If you still cannot hear any sound please make sure that you have updated your flash player to version 8.0. If you have a version less than 7.0, you can experience problems listening to DistElectronic previews. Update your Flash Player by visiting www.macromedia.com

If you cannot hear previews after updating Flash, please clear your cache, delete all cookies, and double check to make sure you are not behind a firewall. Firewalls can create problems when trying to preview tracks, and also when downloading.

Does DistElectronic have a preferred web browser?

We have tested the site extensively on all platforms. We have optimized the performance of the site to handle most web browsers. Our suggestion though is that you stick to Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox and Safari. You will have the best results when using a broadband connection such as DSL or cable modems. Also, newer computers that feature faster processors will have a much easier time rendering the pages.
